What is AposTherapy®?
AposTherapy® is an innovative non-surgical and drug-free treatment for knee pain, back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders. The AposTherapy® treatment was developed by orthopaedic doctors and is based around a unique individually-adjusted device that is worn on the footfor around an hour a day whilst going about normal daily activities. This makes the AposTherapy® treatment programme an effective and highly convenient option. Over 50,000 patients have already been treated worldwide.
The AposTherapy®treatment programme brings your body into optimal alignment, thus reducing the pressure and strain on painful areas in the joint. As you walk, it stimulates and retrains your muscles, ultimately re-educating your body to adopt a corrected and less painful walking style, even when you are not wearing the device. The personalised treatment re-educates the brain and muscles to work correctly in order to provide better joint stability and re-establish a more symmetrical walking pattern, leading to lasting pain lasting pain relief and improved function. A Patients Story..
“I almost never write to journals but two pieces in the Winter 2016 edition of Inspire rang loud bells for me.
I have had osteoarthritis in my knees most of my life because of an accident when I was 14 – when I lost a piece of bone from my right femur. When I was 18 my kneecap was removed. (I have just turned 60.)
Dr Sarah Jarvis answered a question by Jo Cummins about terrible sleeping problems. I spent several years waking up in the night several times a week with pain, getting up, watching television, talking to the cat and making tea while waiting for paracetamol to take effect. I used all the techniques mentioned by Dr Jarvis but they didn’t solve the problem. I did not realise how debilitating this way of life had been till it stopped.
What stopped it was Apostherapy. I learned about this through BUPA – frankly I would probably not have tried it otherwise – and my first appointment was in August 2012. It was extraordinary how I got sleep back immediately – after the first appointment – though I gather this is quite common. The sleep problem has never come back. I did have quite a traumatic time for the first six months because my worse knee, with 40 years of adhesions and scar tissue, reacted badly at first to unfamiliar demands. Since then, however, I am largely pain free on a day to day basis with a full range of movement. My knees will never be perfect but I routinely walk several miles a day – which would have been unimaginable a few years ago. I wear the Apos boots regularly and take them with me everywhere.
Having spent most of my life playing for time on the knee front, it was a life-changer – almost a shock – to discover something new that could make such a difference. I must admit I was very pleased, therefore, to see that Arthritis Care and Apostherapy have gone into some sort of partnership. I very much hope that more people with severe knee pain might be able to benefit.”
