Sports Therapy
What is Sports Therapy?
Sports Therapists are professional practitioners working with private practice or sports teams with individuals that require musculoskeletal treatments. They have extensive training with musculoskeletal based injuries and in particular, sports injuries.
Sports Therapists generally use techniques such as sports massage, electrotherapy, taping (strapping), muscle strengthening and stretching techniques and rehabilitation training. Some more experienced Sports Therapists will also use dry needling and some manipulation techniques.
Currently Sports Therapists are unregulated, meaning they are not required to have Health Professions Council (HPC) registration. However, as members of the Society of Sports Therapists it is ensured that they are fully insured, develop a portfolio of continued professional development and work to set standards of conduct required to maintain membership to the society.
